GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Four players scored in double figures as W&J used a balanced offensive effort to post a 85-53 win over the host Thiel Tomcats in a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon in Mercer County.
The win is the third straight for W&J, who improves to 4-1 overall (2-0 PAC). Thiel falls to 0-2 (0-2 PAC).
After starting off PAC play strong against Bethany earlier in the week, the Presidents looked to maintain their defensive prowess and continue building on their offensive production in conference.
The Presidents came out straight as they built an early 13-point lead on a jumper by
Meghan Dryburgh (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin). Dryburgh scored 8 of W&J's 19 points first quarter points. The Presidents led by a 19-12 margin after 10 minutes of play.
Entering the second quarter, Thiel brought the W&J lead down to the lowest it would be for the rest of the game, being a five point lead, as the Tomcats carried some momentum into the stanza. The Presidents got back to their scoring ways shortly after as they put together an 18-4 run for the remainder of the half. W&J held a comfortable 19-point advantage at halftime (37-18). Freshman
Stellanie Loutsion (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) got some minutes in the rotation and made an impact scoring a team-high five second quarter points.
The second half was more of the same for both units as the Presidents would continue to pile onto their lead while holding the Tomcats to 25% from the field and 26% from beyond the arc.
Adalynn Cherry (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona Area) took over in the third quarter. After being held scoreless in the first half, Cherry dropped 11 third quarter points. W&J posted 26 third quarter points, its highest total in the game.
The Presidents wrapped up the final quarter of regulation adding more points to the board as
Samantha Maurer (Washington, Pa. / Washington) and
Brianna Toal (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Moon Area) would add late contributions for the Presidents.
Dryburgh posted her second double-double in a row and third of the season. She finished with team highs in four categories with 13 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and three steals. Koeck (11), Cherry (11), and Berardelli (10) also scored in double figures.
Bryn Bezjak (Uniontown, Pa. / Albert Gallatin) chipped in eight points and five assists.
Sydney Snyder (Loudonville, Ohio/Loudonville) posted seven points while
Skylar Bibbee (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly) added six points and six rebounds.
