PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's basketball team remained unbeaten in Presidents' Athletic Conference play with a 60-50 win over Chatham University Wednesday evening in Presidents' Athletic Conference play.
The win is the fifth straight for W&J, who improves to 6-1 overall (4-0 PAC). Chatham falls to 4-2 (2-1 PAC).
W&J trailed by a 13-10 margin after the first quarter. The Presidents pulled even early in the second quarter when junior
Nautica Burwell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) made a jumper at the 7:31 mark. Sophomore captain
Adalynn Cherry (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona Area) gave W&J its first lead at 20-17 when she drilled shot from beyond the arc. A little later Chatham regained the lead but sophomore
Meghan Dryburgh (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) converted a three-point play to make it 23-21 with 3:18 remaining in the second. Dryburgh tacked on a pair of free throws as the Presidents held a 26-24 lead at halftime.
The second half was more of the same for both units as the Presidents and Cougars would continue to trade shots throughout the remainder of regulation.
Sarah Berardelli (Ambridge, Pa. / North Catholic),
Victoria Koeck (Sidman, Pa. / Forest Hills), and Cherry would ramp up the offense late in the third quarter as they scored accounted for 10 points as W&J carried a 47-41 lead into the final quarter. The Presidents secured the double-digit win by outpacing the Cougars by a 13-9 margin in a low scoring fourth quarter.
Dryburgh was one point off of her fourth double-double of the season. She finished with nine points, a career-high 16 rebounds and added six assists.
Berardelli (15) and Cherry (11) scored in double figures for the Presidents this evening. Bezjak chipped in nine points while Koeck added seven points and two steals.
W&J owned the glass, as they held a 46-25 advantage in rebounding.
The Presidents host Saint Vincent College for a PAC game on Saturday, December 3 with a 1 p.m. start at Salvitti Family Gymnasium.
