LATROBE, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College swimming & diving teams opened up this weekend with a away dual meet Saturday afternoon at Saint Vincent. The hosting Bearcats claimed victory on both sides (Men's:192-67; Women's: 205-36).
The Presidents posted 14 season-best times on the day between both meets.
The W&J men were led by junior captain
Nathan Smith (Fort Defiance, Va. / Fort Defiance) who finished this afternoon with one first place and one second place finish. He placed first in the 100 Backstroke (57.34) and second in the 200 Backstroke (2:12.32).
Aidan Miller (Grove City, Ohio / St. Charles Prep) posted an efficient day as well as he raced to a second place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:2351) and a third place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:55.76).
Freshman
Melvin McRae (Lillington, N.C. / Overhills) took first place in the 1-meter diving event.
On the women's side, the Presidents were led by junior
Molly Nielsen (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) as she posted first place finish in the 100 freestyle (57.42) and third place in the 50 freestyle (26.70).
Amanda Graves (Irwin, Pa. / Penn Trafford) posted a second place finish in the 200 backstroke (2:31.62) and third place in the 100 backstroke (1:09.28).
Taylor Newton (Olyphant, Pa. / Scranton Prep) also contributed with a second place finish in the 1,000 freestyle (12:23.38) and fourth in the 100 freestyle (1:03.48).
W&J returns to competition in 2023 on Saturday, Jan. 14 when they head to Hiram, Ohio for a meet with the Hiram Terriers and the Bluffton Beavers in the Presidents first swimming & diving meet of the year coming off of the winter break.
