Women's Water Polo falls in close battle to Wittenberg

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's water polo team dropped a pair of matches Saturday while competing at Grove City.

Wittenberg 10, W&J 8

Ryley McClellan (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) led the team with three goals, three assists, and four steals. Meghan DePrez (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) was right behind with two goals and two assists. Sydney Neumann (Long Beach, Calif./Millikan), Marcella Gallardo-Russell (Santa Cruz, Calif./Santa Cruz), and Anastacia Didovich (Venice, Fla./Venice) all scored one goal a piece for the Presidents. 

Cecelia Weiss (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) got the start in net and recorded 12 saves.

VMI 17, W&J 5

Laura Anthony (Erie,Pa./Villa Maria Academy) recorded her first collegiate hat trick, scoring three goals against VMI. Didovich and Neumann () recorded one goal a piece for the Red & Black. 

Weiss recorded 10 saves before  Felicia Filippini (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) and Alliey Cunningham (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) each recorded two saves in their collegiate debuts in front of the goal. 

W&J returns to action Saturday, March 19 at home as the Presidents will host Penn State Behrend. The match is set for a 11 a.m. start time.
