WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse team gained an early lead and raced past Bethany by a 15-2 score in the Presidents' Athletic Conference opener for both teams Tuesday evening at Alexandre Stadium.
The win improves W&J to 2-4 overall while the Bison fall to 4-5 overall.
W&J led by a 5-1 margin after the first quarter and 10-1 at halftime. The Presidents inflicted the running clock mercy rule by outscoring the Bison by a 5-1 margin in the second half to run away with the victory.
The Presidents held advantages in shots (34-11) and ground balls (39-31).
Amanda Effland (Frederick, Md./Frederick) paced the Presidents with six points (4g, 2a) and a career-high 10 ground balls.
Aisa Uhler (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) tallied three goals, two assists and four ground balls in a winning effort.
Emily Heck (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) finished with a pair of goals. Nine different Presidents scored in the game, which included sophomore
Paige Howe (Bowie, Md./St. Johns) with her first collegiate goal.
Sarah Labovitz (Great Falls, Va./The Bullis School) tallied six ground balls, five caused turnovers and had a game-high seven draw controls.
Ella Phillips (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) registered five ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Kaitlyn Brown (Charlotte Hall, Md./La Plata) finished with seven saves in the victory.
W&J hosts future PAC member Allegheny College on Wednesday, March 30. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
