PASADENA, Calif. --
Megan DePrez (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) tallied a sudden death goal to give W&J a 10-9 victory over Caltech and secure a fifth straight victory for the Washington & Jefferson women's water polo team Tuesday evening in California. The two teams battled throughout four normal quarters and two overtime quarters before it went to sudden death goal to determine the winner.
W&J is now 5-3 overall while CalTech drops to 1-11 overall.

Laura Anthony (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy),
Anastacia Didovich (Venice, Fla./Venice )and
Marcella Gallardo-Russell (Santa Cruz, Calif./Santa Cruz) all recorded a goal each for the Presidents in the first quarter to send W&J into the second quarter leading by a 3-1 score.
The Presidents' offense went cold over in the second and third quarters, as they did not score and Caltech took a 4-3 lead into the final quarter.
The Presidents got hot in the final quarter, scoring four goals. Two goals from
Sydney Neumann (Long Beach, Calif./Millikan) and one from
Ryley McClellan (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and Gallardo-Russell was able to pull W&J back into the lead, 7-5. Caltech did not give up though, scoring two goals in less than two minutes to send the two teams into overtime.
The Beavers scored the first goal in the fifth quarter, but Gallardo-Russell responded almost immediately to tie up the game once again. Caltech would find the goal one more time before heading into the final overtime frame, 9-8.
McClellan would be the only player to score in the sixth quarter to tie up the game and send the teams to sudden death. DePrez would find the back of the goal almost immediately to secure the 10-9 win for W&J.
Cecelia Weiss (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) had an outstanding night in goal for the Presidents. Weiss recorded 14 saves to receive the win in goal.
W&J will play California Lutheran tomorrow, March 23 in Thousand Oaks, California. The match is slated for an 4 p.m. pst (7 p.m. est) start time.
