WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's tennis team picked up an 8-1 win over Thiel College Thursday evening in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center.
W&J claimed all three doubles matches before taking five of the six singles matches. The win is the first in PAC play for the Presidents.
The twin tandem of Jimmy Gunn (Beaver Falls, Pa./Riverside) and William Gunn (Beaver Falls, Pa./Riverside) registered an 8-4 victory at first doubles. Abhinav Yarramaneni (Mountain View, Calif./Los Altos) and Samuel Vessah (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) edged the Thiel team at second doubles for an 8-7 win. W&J won by forfeit at third doubles.
James Gunn and Billy Gunn were victorious in straight sets at the number two and number three singles spots, respectively.
Vessah picked up his first collegiate win by a 6-4, 6-3 score at fourth singles. Joseph Panahandeh (Murrysville, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) coasted to a 6-1, 6-1 win at the number five spots. Nolan Rehrig (Jim Thorpe, Pa. / Jim Thorpe Area) won by forfeit at number six.
W&J returns to action on Monday, April 18 at Waynesburg.
