NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College softball team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference play on the road against Westminster Saturday afternoon. The Presidents fell in game one by a score of 5-0 and game two by a 10-2 margin.
Game 1: Westminster 5, W&J 0
Westminster opened the day with two runs in the first inning before adding three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to put things out of reach.
The Titans held a 7-2 advantage in hits in the opener.
Ashleigh Gerber (Woodstock, Md./Marriots Ridge),
Aliya Schraeder (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) and
Mollie Charlton (North Apollo, Pa./Apollo Ridge) each recorded one hit for the Red & Black.
Jordan Hinz (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) got the start in the circle and suffered the loss for W&J.
Game 2: Westminster 10, W&J 2 (6 Innings)
The second game remained scoreless until the Titans pushed three runs across in the bottom of the third.
Olivia Dewick (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) and Gerber opened the fourth inning with a pair of singles. A double to the right field line from
Savannah Keough (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) sent Dewick home to score for W&J's first run. Westminster responded with five more runs throughout the next two innings to create a 8-1 lead.
Schraeder was able to tack on one more run for the Presidents in the top of the sixth when her infield single scored Gerber.
Schraeder, Dewick, and Gerber all had multi-hit games for the Presidents in game two.
Sydney Petrowski (Lemont Furnace, Pa./Connellsville) got the start in the circle and took the loss after working four innings.
W&J returns back on the road Wednesday, April 6 as they head to Bethany College. The PAC doubleheader is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
