Fast start guides Field Hockey to 5-0 win at Medaille

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Washington & Jefferson field hockey team tallied three first quarter goals en route to a dominant 5-0 road victory over Medaille University Tuesday evening in an Empire 8 Conference match in New York.

Lina Crowley (Potomac, Md./Bullis School) wasted little time in getting the Presidents on the board. Crowley's second goal of the season came just 1:55 into the conference contest.

Crowley's classmate, fellow senior Lindsey Diggan (Sinking Spring, Pa./Governor Mifflin), extended the lead to 2-0 with her goal in the ninth minute of the game. The goal was the second of the season for Diggan.

With just a little more than a minute remaining in the first quarter, Camryn Cresci (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. DuPont) tallied her third goal of the season. Cresci took a pass from freshman Lily Giering (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) and finished into the back of the cage to make it 3-0 Presidents.

Neither team scored in the second quarter as W&J took a 3-0 advantage into halftime. The Presidents tacked on single goals in the third and fourth quarters to finish off the 5-0 victory. Reigning Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week Hailey Wachowiak (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) scored an unassisted goal in the third quarter to make it 4-0. Wachowiak then added another goal in the fourth quarter, scoring off an assist from Cresci midway through the final frame.

W&J held decisive advantages in shots (36-7), shots on goal (21-4) and penalty corners (12-5).

Anastasia Godat (Baltimore, Md./Concordia Preparatory School) picked up her second straight shutout win. Godat recorded three saves in 57-plus minutes in goal.

W&J looks to make it three-straight wins Saturday when they face Nazareth College. Start time is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. in Rochester, N.Y.
