PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College volleyball team picked up a 3-0 road victory over La Roche in a non-conference match Saturday morning in Pittsburgh.
The Presidents won by set scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-19 over the Redhawks. The sweep was the first for the Presidents since the 2020-21 season. W&J improves to 4-3 overall while La Roche drops to 5-5.
Offensively, the Presidents were paced by sophomore right side
Jaden Blough (Meyersdale, Pa./Meyersdale), who registered eight kills and just one attack error on the day. Sophomore setter
Adrianna Sacramento (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) tallied 18 assists and a team-best 15 digs.

Piper McFarland (West Mifflin, Pa./Cornerstone Preparatory Academy) recorded 11 digs and two service aces. Junior middle hitter
Lizzie Carmichael (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) paced the Presidents at the net with three total blocks.
In the opening set, W&J faced an early deficit before recording four straight points to even the score at 9-9. A little later, a block by freshman outside hitter
Faith Fetsko (South Park, Pa./South Park) gave the Presidents five straight points and a 14-11 advantage. La Roche eventually rallied to even the score at 20-20 before W&J used a late spurt to close out the set one victory.
W&J ripped off 11 of the first 13 points in the second set. A kill by Blough made it 11-2 in favor of the Presidents. The lead swelled to double digits (19-9) when Carmichael tallied a block and a kill in succession. La Roche made a late run at it but W&J was able to secure a 25-21 set two victory.
La Roche jumped out to an early lead in the third set before W&J used five straight points to take the lead for good. A pair of service aces by senior defensive specialist Sophia Sacripointe (Butler, Pa./Butler) highlighted the run which gave the Presidents an 11-9 lead. The Red and Black used five more consecutive points to swell the lead to 17-11 and force a La Roche timeout. W&J tallied the final four points of the third set to take it 25-19 to secure the sweep.
W&J returns to action at Franciscan University of Steubenville on Tuesday, Sept. 20. The match will be played at Steubenville Central Catholic High School with a 7 p.m. start time.
