MARIETTA, Ohio -- The Washington & Jefferson College volleyball team split day two Saturday afternoon at the BSN River City Classic, which was hosted by Marietta College in Ohio. The Presidents rained victorious in the first matchup against Kenyon in four sets to open their day before falling in three sets to Marietta.
W&J 3, Kenyon 1 (25-12, 14-25, 25-18, 25-21)
After claiming the first set with ease by a score of 25-12, Kenyon struck back immediately in second set by a score of 25-14. From the third set on, the Presidents ran away with the game taking set three at a score of 25-18 and set four in a narrow back-and-forth victory at a score of 25-21.
Junior middle hitter
Lizzie Carmichael (Wyoming, Ohio / Wyoming) led the team with a team-high 13 kills while freshman outside hitter
Faith Fetsko (South Park, Pa. / South Park) and
Jaden Blough (Meyersdale, Pa. / Meyersdale) were right behind with 12 kills and 11 kills, respectively.
Sophomore setter
Adrianna Sacramento (Pittsburgh, Pa / Woodland Hills) recorded the team-high of 40 assists. Sacramento recorded the team-high three service aces. Freshman setter/defensive specialist
Piper McFarland (West Mifflin, Pa. / Cornerstone Preparatory Academy) tallied a team-best 20 digs.
Marietta 3, W&J 0 (14-25, 13-25, 16-25)
The Pioneers completed a perfect 3-0 weekend with their third straight sweep. W&J dropped the match by scores of 25-14, 25-13 and 25-16.
Fetsko tallied a team-leading eight kills and added a team-high 11 digs on the defensive end of things. Sacramento registered a team-leading 15 assists.
Sophia Sacriponte (Butler, Pa. / Butler Area) led the way with four service aces.
W&J (2-1 overall) host Point Park for its home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 7. The non-conference match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
