WASHINGTON Pa. - The Washington & Jefferson College field hockey team fell 1-0 to the visiting Denison Big Red in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at Cameron Stadium.
The Presidents battled throughout the match but Denison was able to register the lone goal of the match when Grace Lock scored with just under four minutes remaining in the first half.
The Big Red, who locked up the second seed in the NCAC Tournament, held sizable advantages in both Penalty Corners (21-0) and Shots (19-0) during the match.
W&J's defense did its best to thwart several chances for Denison to add to its lead.
Anastasia Godat (Baltimore, Md./Concordia Preparatory School) recorded a season-high 13 saves in her final appearance in the Red and Black.
W&J honored its trio of seniors, Godat, Emily Heck (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) and Hailey Wachowiak.
Godat and Wachowiak both put themselves in the W&J record book with their efforts over the past three seasons. Wachowiak finishes fifth all-time in points (92) and fifth all-time in goals (40). Godat made 257 career saves to rank second in program history.
W&J finishes its first season in the NCAC with a 4-6 record. The Presidents recorded a 6-10 mark overall in 2023.
