NEWVILLE, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson College cross country standouts
Claire Anderson (Jamestown, Pa./Jamestown) and
Cassie Carr (Girard, Pa./Girard) finished off an impressive season Saturday afternoon by competing in the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championships. The event was hosted by Dickinson College at Big Spring High School.
Anderson, the 2023 PAC Champion and NCAA All-Region honoree, finished in 107th place in the 292-runner field Saturday. Anderson logged a time of 22:35.0. Anderson was competing in the NCAA Cross Country Championships for the first time.
Carr, a three-time All-PAC and three-time All-Region performer, was making her second appearance at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships. Carr crossed the finish line with a time of 23:20.8. She finished 230th overall.
The duo made history for W&J Women's Cross Country. Saturday's event marked the first time that two W&J women's runners competed in the same NCAA Cross Country Championship race.
Following the conclusion of the race, Carr was honored as the Elite 90 Award winner at the championship event. The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.
