WASHINGTON, Pa. – The struggles continued Saturday afternoon for the Washington & Jefferson College's men's basketball team, who suffered an 89-76 setback to the visiting Bethany Bison in Presidents' Athletic Conference play inside the Salvitti Family Gymnasium.
 
W&J placed two players in double digits as sophomore Alex Acosta (Acworth, Ga. / North Cobb) paced the Presidents with a career-high 38 points. The sophomore hit 15-of-21 from the floor. Acosta's scoring performance ranks as one of the tops for the Presidents in quite some time. Only four Presidents have recorded 41 points or more in a game in program history. Acosta, who entered the day among the Top 20 in NCAA Divsion III in field goal percentage, has made 67.8 percent of his attempts this season. 

Joining Acosta in double digits was senior Nick Gearhart (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon) with 12 points, hitting 4-of-9 from the floor, and adding a team-high seven rebounds as well.
 
Freshman Nathan Plotner (Parkersburg, W.Va. / Parkersburg South) chipped in eight points for the Presidents. Sophomore Matt Seidl (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) dished out a team-high five assists.
 
The Presidents beat out the Bison in points in the paint and fast break points but were unable to find their groove beyond the arc to offset the three-point differential. Bethany made 14 three-pointers compared to just one by W&J.

Four Bison scored in double figures. The Green and White were led by a 20-point, 11-rebound performance by Cole Dailey. Five different Bison made at least two three-point field goals in the victory. 
 
W&J will take on Franciscan next, Wednesday December 6th here at the Salvitti Family Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
