Milestone Moment: W&J rolls past Waynesburg to give DeRubbo win No. 500

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson head women's basketball coach reached another milestone Saturday afternoon when she collected her 500th career win as the Presidents rolled to a 74-50 victory over host Waynesburg in a Presidents' Athletic Conference game at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.

DeRubbo, currently in her 19th season as W&J's head coach, is in her 26th season as a college head coach after spending her first seven seasons at fellow conference institution Bethany. She has amassed a 369-144 (.719) record in Washington after posting a 131-57 (.697) mark at Bethany, giving her a career record of 500-201 (.713).

She becomes the first basketball coach -- men's or women's -- in PAC history to reach 500 coaching wins exclusively as a PAC coach. DeRubbo is just one of 20 active Division III women's basketball coaches with 500 wins. Her teams have reached 20 wins a whopping 17 times in her coaching career. Her teams have posted winning seasons in 24 of her 26 seasons at the helm.

W&J led 18-16 after the first before stretching its advantage to 35-23 at halftime. The Presidents dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Yellow Jackets by a 22-4 score in the frame.

Freshman guard Stellanie Loutsion (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) dropped a team-best 16 points in just 11 minutes off the bench. Loutsion drained 4-of-8 field goal attempts including a pair of three-pointers and 6-of-7 free throws in the game.

Junior guard/forward Meghan Dryburgh (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) continued her stellar season. Dryburgh finished with 13 points, nine rebounds, six steals and three assists. Sophomore Sydney Snyder (Loudonville, Ohio/Loudonville) tallied nine points on four-of-five shooting off the bench. A total of 11 Presidents scored at least one point in the victory.

W&J made 44.8 percent of its field goal attempts (26-of-58) and 16-of-21 (76.2 percent) from the free throw line.

Anika Dansby finished with 19 points to lead Waynesburg in the loss.

The win improves first place W&J to 21-2 overall and 17-1 in the PAC. Waynesburg drops to 2-21 and 2-16 in league play. The win is the 12th straight for the Presidents in the head-to-head series against Waynesburg.

W&J enters the final week of the regular season needing one win to lock up the No. 1 seed in the upcoming PAC Tournament. The Presidents host Geneva for a conference clash on Wednesday, Feb. 15. Tip off at Salvitti Gymnasium is scheduled for 6 p.m.
