WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson men's lacrosse team opened their season in an electric way as they rolled past the La Roche Redhawks at Alexandre Stadium Wednesday evening, 35-0.
The Presidents got off to an early lead in this matchup and ran away with it from the start as they ended the first quarter up 14-0.
W&J kept their foot on the gas as they added an additional nine goals to their already impressive total as they entered the half up by 23-0.
As both sides returned from the half, the Presidents maintained their momentum and tacked on eight more goals to go up 31-0 heading into the final quarter of play.
The Presidents would end up taking a 35-0 victory over the Redhawks after a dominating season-opening performance.
Parker Lucas (Delmar, Del. / Delmar) led the team with nine goals in a career night for the sophomore. Lucas was backed by
Carter Watts (Gilbertsville, Pa. / Boyertown) who added seven goals.
Zach Mey (Bridgeville, Pa. / South Fayette) tallied six goals, and
Paul Shook (Camp Hill, Pa. / Trinity) contributed three scores. Shook and Lucas also led the Presidents in assists with six apiece while
Ronin Keane (Medford, Mass. / Arlington Catholic) led the Presidents tonight with 15 ground balls while Petrarco tallied 13 ground balls.
W&J won 31-of-38 face-off attempts on the evening. Keane won 19-of-23 attempts while Petrarco was successful on 10-of-10 attempts. Keane caused six turnovers while
Levi Krebs (Sewickley, Pa./Pine Richland) added five caused turnovers.
Henry Beardwood (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum School) earned the win in net with one save.
The Presidents men's lacrosse team will look to return to Alexandre Stadium this weekend as they will take on the visiting Muskingum Fighting Muskies for another non-conference matchup this Saturday. Face off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
