Men's Tennis halted by Titans in regular season finale

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's tennis team fell by a 7-2 score to host Westminster College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match Thursday afternoon to cap off the 2023 regular season for the team.

W&J begun the afternoon finding their stride early as the team took two of the three doubles matches to take the early team score lead, 2-1.

At first doubles, the tandem of Abhinav Yarramaneni (Mountain View, Calif. / Los Altos) and Alex Duing (Pittsburgh, Pa. / South Park) won their first match of the day as they took a tiebreaker victory over the Titans. The duo of Jackson Akers (Logan, W. Va. / Logan) and Connor Simms (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canon McMillan) would also continue their impressive first-year campaigns as they would also tack on a win for the Presidents at second doubles. The freshman combo would take a one set win over the Titans, 8-6.

After taking two of the three doubles matches, W&J would be shutout in singles play. Nate Clarke (New Kensington, Pa. / Valley) would own the sole set win for the Presidents as his matchup came down to the wire in a third set tiebreaker where he would ultimately fall to Thomas Albert.

Dual-sport athlete Jaren Thimons' (Valencia, Pa. / North Catholic) hot streak would also come to a close after registering at least one win in the last four matches for the first-year tennis player.

W&J closes its regular season out finishing 3-9 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
