HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College scored in all four quarters to down the Washington & Jefferson College field hockey team by a 6-1 score Wednesday evening in a non-conference match at Knox Stadium.
The host Eagles recorded a pair of first quarter goals to take an early advantage. Brooke Frank opened the scoring just 52 seconds into the contest. Juniata tacked on a second first quarter score when Kaylyn Walters found the back of the cage with 33 seconds left in the frame. Early in the second quarter, Walters scored again to push the Eagles lead to 3-0 by halftime.
Juniata's Caitlin Steffie and Sydney Witter registered goals in the third quarter to put further distance between the Presidents and the Eagles. Aimee Buffington scored for Juniata just 1:04 into the fourth quarter to put the score at 6-0.
Hailey Wachowiak (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) broke up the shutout with a W&J goal in the fourth. Wachowiak's team-leading seventh goal was assisted by
Sara Schriver (Greenville, S.C. / Christ Church Episcopal School). Wachowiak, who moves up to seventh on the all-time points list at W&J, has scored a goal in four-straight matches.
Anastasia Godat (Baltimore, Md. / Concordia Preparatory School) recorded four saves for the Red and Black over the 60 minutes in goal.
Wachowiak recorded two of the three shots for W&J.
Ella Phillips (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) had the other shot for the Presidents.
Juniata held advantages in shots (12-3), shots on goal (10-2) and penalty corners (10-2).
W&J continues its busy week when they hit the road for a pair of North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) matches this weekend. The Presidents face Wittenberg University on Friday, Sept. 22. Start time Springfield, Ohio is scheduled for 7 p.m.
