Men's Soccer Downed at Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Washington and Jefferson College men's soccer team fell short in a 3-1 loss at Allegheny College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match Saturday in Meadville.

The Presidents held a 1-0 lead with 20 minutes to play but the Gators scored three times late to pick up the victory.

The two teams played through a scoreless first half, as both teams were unable to take advantage of scoring chances. Allegheny held advantages in shots (6-4) and corner kicks (3-0) at the break.

The Presidents were the first to find the back of the net as Jimmy Gogol (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) scored unassisted in the 52nd minute of play. Gogol, just a freshman, leads W&J with four goals this fall.

Allegheny would even the score in the 71st minute, scoring off a penalty kick. The Gators one true goal would come in the 77th minute of play when they scored to take the lead at 2-1. Allegheny penalty kick goal extended the Gators lead to 3-1 in the 84th minute.

The Gators outpaced the Presidents in shots (16-9), shots on goal (9-2), and corner kicks (5-0).

For the Presidents, Gogol and Jacob Lee (Honolulu, Hawaii / Iolani School) would record the only two shots on goal for the Red & Black.

Junior goalkeeper Charles Boldosser (Westminster, Md. / South Carroll) played all 90 minutes in goal and collected six saves for the Presidents.

W&J will look to bounce back on Wednesday, October 4 when they host Waynesburg. Kickoff at Alexandre Stadium is scheduled for 6 p.m.
