Volleyball Drops Second Matchup of the Season to Allegheny, 3-1

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College volleyball team fell to the visiting Allegheny Gators in their second matchup of the season, 3-1.
 
The loss effectively hands the Presidents an even .500 overall record, dropping to team to 11-11 on the season and 2-3 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play.
 
Both sides traded sets in the early going with large win margins. The Gators took the first set of the day with a 25-16 win. A kill by freshman Alexandra Ash (Richmond, Ohio/Edison) triggered a five-point run that gave the Presidents a 12-5 lead. W&J grew their lead to 18-8 with the help of sophomore middle blocker Abby Oldham (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell), who tallied two kills in the four-point swing.
 
W&J logged a .424 hitting percentage as a team in the second set with 16 of the team's 45 total kills occurring in the set. The team hitting percentage was the highest of the match for both sides in any set.
 
W&J reverted to their first set woes in the third and fourth sets, dropping each to a score of 25-15.
 
Faith Fetsko (Venetia, Pa./South Park) led the team in kills with 14 accompanied by Ash with seven. Fetsko also contributed 15 digs to log a double-double on the day. Adrianna Sacramento (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) and Brielle Moorhouse (East Liberty, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) led the team in the setting department with 19 and 17 assists, respectively.
 
Piper McFarland (West Mifflin, Pa./Cornerstone Preparatory Academy) held down the defensive efforts for W&J with 26 digs. Oldham led the Presidents in blocks on the afternoon with three total blocks. Rian Benz (Strongsville, Ohio/Holy Name) also added two total blocks to her totals.
 
W&J heads north to faceoff with the Westminster Titans, Wednesday (Oct. 23). Opening serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
