WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 shutout loss to the visiting Grove City Wolverines in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.
The loss drops W&J to 3-5-1 in the PAC and 6-10-1 overall. The victory moves Grove City to 7-2-0 in the league and 10-3-2 overall.
Noah Gray was the difference for the Wolverines, as the sophomore scored the only two goals of the game for Grove City. Gray scored his first goal on a penalty kick in the 17th minute of play with the goal being the only action for the remainder of the first half.
The second half of the contest was scoreless until Gray netted another goal in 89th minute of play to seal the deal for the Wolverines giving a 2-0 leg up exiting the game.
Sophomore midfielder Jimmy Gogol (Westminster, Md./Westminster) led the offensive effort for the Presidents with three shots. Tavan Schoenberger (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) and Zach Casey (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) followed closely with two shots.
The Wolverines outshot the Presidents 21-10 (13-4 on goal) and held the advantage in corner kicks, 7-2.
Charles Boldosser (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) logged time in goal for the first half of play and recorded eight saves for the Presidents. Graeme Ewart (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) charted the final 45 minutes of play and fended off three shots from the Wolverines.
The Presidents return to the pitch next against Westminster in their final regular season matchup. Kickoff is slated for 8:30 p.m.
