BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College Cross Country teams competed in the Paul Short Run hosted by Division I Lehigh University. The women fought their way to a 12
th place-finish sixth while the men took 26th.
For the women,
Claire Anderson (Jamestown, Pa./Jamestown) led the charge for the Red & Black with a season-high time in the 6k. Anderson wrapped the afternoon in second place with a near personal-best time of 21:50.1.
Maria Gilles (North Ridgeville, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) followed up the performance of Anderson with a top finish of her own, taking 36
th with a time of 24:04.3. Behind Gilles followed
Genevieve Ruth (Brecksville, Ohio/Brecksville Broadview Heights) with an 82
nd-place finish and mark of 25:07.2.
Wrapping up the women's top five runners was
Chloe LoCastro (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) who finished close behind Ruth in 88
th with a time of 25:14.7.
Grace Reid-Vensel (Washington, Pa./Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter) posted a 157
th-place finish with a time of 26:47.9.
For the men,
Dominic Flitcraft (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) headed the Presidents efforts, pacing his way to a 34
th-place finish with a mark of 25:18.2. Senior
Julian Paul (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) wrapped the morning as the Presidents second-best runner with a mark of 25:50.4 to place 77th. Fellow senior,
Brock Pennington (North East, Pa./North East) finished 176
th with a mark of 26:47.6.
Rounding out the top men's finishers was sophomore
Shaun Walker (Washington, Pa./Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter), wrapping the day in 255
th place with a time of 27:35.7. Senior
Daniel Deal (Butler, Pa./Knoch) logged a 319
th-place finish with a time of 28:27.2.
W&J returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 12) at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational. The meet is scheduled to commence at 10:00 a.m.
