Field Hockey Caps Season with Road Loss to Denison

GRANVILLE, Ohio - The Washington & Jefferson College women's field hockey team dropped a 5-0 decision to Denison Saturday (Nov. 2), in North Coast Athletic Conference play, effectively ending their 2024 campaign.

Denison controlled possession in the first half, with the Presidents unable to get a shot off. Big Red was able to collect 13 shots and seven penalty corners.

Both teams remained scoreless throughout the first quarter. Despite the Presidents showcase of good defense in the first 15 minutes of play, Denison found their first goal in the 18th minute of play from Emma Gebhart who tacked on another just a 1:35 seconds later to put Big Red ahead 2-0 going into the half.

Denison found the back of the cage twice in the third quarter and tallied a final blow in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring.

W&J's first and only shot came from Lily Giering (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) in the third quarter of play.

Grace Erhard (Mechanicsburg, Pa./ Cumberland Valley) at the start of the bout, picking up the first half of the game before fellow freshman Kaitlyn Wildermuth (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) relieved Erhard for the final 30 minutes of the game. Erhard tallied 11 saves in her 45-minute effort.

The win improved Big Red to 10-6 overall and 9-1 in NCAC play. The Presidents finish out their second season in the NCAC and first under Head Coach Brittney Randolph with a 3-11 overall record and 3-7 in NCAC play.
