GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson men's soccer team fell to No. 3 seed Grove City on the road in their Quarterfinals matchup Saturday (Nov. 2).
Both teams held a stalemate as the clock ticked down heading towards halftime with both teams scoreless after 40 minutes of play. After putting up ten shots during that duration, the Wolverines found the back of the net on their final shot of the half at the 42:30 mark to secure a 1-0 lead heading into the second 45 minutes of play.
W&J staved off the Wolverine offense allowing only three shots while fending off six corner kicks during the first 20 minutes of the second half before Grove City broke through and scored for a second time at the 67:59 mark.
Grove City netted two more insurance goals back-to-back in the 84
th minute of play to secure a 4-0 victory in the Quarterfinal match.
Justin Parker Wyatt (Coatesville, Pa./Unionville),
Jimmy Gogol (Westminster, Md./Westminster),
Zach Casey (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) and
Jai Sama (India/Brookhouse College (England)) all registered a shot apiece to account for all four of W&J's shots in the contest.
The Presidents were outshot by the Wolverines 21-8 (8-1 on goal) throughout the duration of the bout. The team also held a strong advantage in corner kicks with an 10-2 margin.
The Presidents conclude the season with a 4-7-5 overall record and a 4-5-1 mark in conference play.
