Women’s Basketball Showcases Offensive Prowess in PAC Home Opening Victory

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's basketball team presented their depth and offensive abilities in the Presidents' conference home opener against Westminster, 98-42.

W&J uplifts their record to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play. W&J's 98 points are the most points scored since defeating Thiel 103-58 this past season.

Five Presidents hit double figures on the afternoon beginning with Adalynn Cherry (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) who crafted a flawless day. Cherry went six-for-six from the field including an untarnished three-for-three mark from beyond the arc for a total of 15 points. Stellanie Loutsion (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) also tacked on 15 points, adding four steals to her totals. Freshman guard Jordyn Wolfe (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) posted a breakout season-high 13-point performance.

Meghan Dryburgh (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) logged a near double-double showing with 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Halena Hill (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) rounded out the Presidents top performers with a career-high 10 rebounds.

W&J made more than half of their shot attempts from the field (39-for-71) with their most efficient quarter occurring in the opening quarter of play (13-for-20). W&J's defense held the Titans to under 30 percent from the field (13-for-46) and 20 percent from beyond the arc (three-for-15).

A three-point shooting spree kicked off the scoring in the bout as Cherry drilled both of the Presidents' triples to open the game. Quickly after building their immediate lead, Loustion kicked off a 10-0 run with two layups in the paint to build their lead to 23-9. Wolfe logged the other six points during the unanswered run. Layups by Bryn Bezjak (Uniontown, Pa./Albert Gallatin) and Jaden Wan (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock) closed out the first quarter with a 32-17 W&J lead.

The Presidents ramped up their offense in the second quarter with a 9-0 run. An old fashioned three-point play sparked the opening quarter run. Building their lead throughout the first half, Hill and Wolfe remained producers for the Presidents' offense. Hill tacked on five points while Wolfe nabbed a gritty layup to close the first half, up 56-26.

Out of the half, W&J ripped off another unanswered run to open the third quarter with an 11-0 swing. All but three of their 11 points scored to open the half came in the paint. Shannon Conley (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) gave the offense some juice towards the third quarter, drilling two shots from beyond the arc. A three-point make by Hannah Archer (Lowell, Ohio/Fort Frye) and makes from the charity stripe from Raegan Kadlecik (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) build the lead to 84-33.

The Presidents tacked on 14 more points in the final quarter of play to ensure their 98-42 victory over Westminster.

W&J held strong advantages in points in the paint (56-18), bench points (51-16), points off of turnovers ( 29-6) and second chance points (20-4). W&J controlled the rebound game, holding a 43-27 advantage on the boards.

W&J returns to action this coming Tuesday (Nov. 26), as they take on the Chatham Cougars. The midweek bout is scheduled to tipoff at 6:00 p.m.
