Dryburgh’s Double-Double Uplifts W&J Past Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson women's basketball team outlasted the hosting Grove City Wolverines in a down to the wire, 74-71 victory Wednesday evening.

Meghan Dryburgh (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) logged a double double in the outing tallying a game high 15 points and game high 11 rebounds. Halena Hill (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) joined Dryburgh in the double digits with 14 points.

A three pointer from Hill gave the Presidents their largest lead of the first quarter putting them ahead 23-17. Following two layups from the Wolverines, the first quarter ended with W&J up 23-21.

Grove City gained their second one-point lead of the game at the 5:40 mark of the second quarter. Despite a back-and-forth battle for the lead, three pointers from Hill, Jordyn Wolfe (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) and an and-one play executed by Bryn Bezjak (Uniontown, Pa./Albert Gallatin) gave the Presidents a nine-point lead that set them ahead for the remainder of the half with the Wolverines down 48-38 heading into the half.

Grove City was able to bring the game back within four at the end of the third, down 62-58.

The Presidents outlasted the Wolverines holding them to just 13 points in the final 10 minutes of play. W&J scored 12 points of their own to retain a three-point lead when the final buzzer sounded.

The Red & Black held the advantage in second-chance points (14-6) and bench points (28-20). On the opposite end, the Wolverines held advantages in points off turnovers (13-6), points in the paint (40-36), and fast break points (18-4).

The Presidents hit the road to take on the Bethany Bison next in conference play on Saturday (Dec. 7). The game is set to get underway at 1:00 p.m.
