Alex Acosta earns spot on D3hoops.com Team of the Week

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Following two strong performances against the top two teams in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, Washington & Jefferson College sophomore forward Alex Acosta (Acworth, Ga./North Cobb) earned a spot on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week on Tuesday morning.

The Team of the Week presented by Scoutware is D3hoops.com's weekly honor roll, in its 27th season of recognizing the top performance at each of the five positions from the previous week.

Acosta, who has enjoyed a breakout season as one of the top players in the PAC, averaged 25.5 points last week as the Presidents earned a split versus the top two teams in the conference.

Acosta poured in a game-high 30 points on a stellar 12-of-13 shooting effort from the field to help W&J snap first place Geneva's 12-game winning streak Wednesday. He then matched the game high with 21 points in a narrow 87-84 loss at Saint Vincent on Saturday.

Acosta, the PAC's leader in field goal percentage, converted at an astonishing 79% clip last week (19-of-24). The sophomore has poured in 439 points and has pulled down 198 rebounds so far this season.

In addition to leading the conference in field goal percentage (62.6), Acosta also leads the PAC in scoring with 19.1 points per game, ranks fourth in rebounding (8.6) and third in blocked shots (1.6).

This is just the second time a W&J player has earned a spot on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week in its history. Josip Lucic-Jozak also received the recognition back in 2009.

Acosta is also the first PAC player to earn the weekly honor from D3hoops.com this season.

W&J travels to Grove City for a conference clash on Wednesday, Feb. 14. The Presidents need a win over the Wolverines to keep their hopes alive for a berth in next week's PAC Tournament. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the College Arena in Mercer County.
