Uhler, Jenkins net hat tricks as W&J falls to Wooster

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The visiting College of Wooster Fighting Scots tallied the game's first seven goals en route to an 18-12 victory over the Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse team in non-conference play Thursday evening under the lights of Alexandre Stadium.

The loss drops W&J to 0-3 overall. Wooster stays perfect as they move to 4-0 overall in 2024.

The visiting Fighting Scots led 4-0 after the opening quarter. Wooster ripped off three-straight goals to open up a 7-0 lead midway through the second quarter.

Senior Sofia Jenkins (Hughesville, Md./The Calverton School) got the Presidents on the board at the 8:19 mark of the second quarter. The teams traded scores over the final 7:29 of the first half. Jenkins tallied another unassisted score at the 2:15 mark. Senior attacker Aisa Uhler (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) scored off an assist from Paige Howe (Bowie, Md./Saint Johns) with 38 seconds before half. Wooster answered 21 seconds later to stretch their lead to 9-3 at halftime.

The teams played through an even second half. Both teams scored three times in the third quarter. Jenkins, Uhler and freshman midfielder Ella Holland (Healdsburg, Calif./Cardinal Newman) each registered a score in the third.

The fourth quarter proved to be the most productive of the night for the offenses. Both teams scored six times over the final 15 minutes. W&J trimmed the deficit to five on four occasions in the final quarter but could get no closer. Uhler scored three times in the final frame. Holland, sophomore midfielder Mya Bolinda (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and senior attacker Emily Heck (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) also found the back of the net in the fourth.

Uhler continued to carry the load for the Presidents offensively. The senior attacker finished with a game-high five goals. Uhler has scored at least four goals in each of the three games this season.

Jenkins (three goals) and Holland (two goals, one assist) backed Uhler's efforts. Bolinda led W&J in the draw circle with four draw controls.

Senior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Brown (Charlotte Hall, Md./La Plata) logged 11 saves during her 60 minutes of work in goal. Freshman defender Sammy Hartz (Ijamsville, Md./Oakland) finished with game highs in ground balls (4) and caused turnovers (3).

Lizzie Hardy led Wooster with six points (three goals, three assists) and seven draw controls in the victory.

The Fighting Scots outpaced the Presidents in shots (37-25) and draw controls (17-12). W&J had a 23-18 advantage in ground balls.

W&J will face another challenging non-conference test on Saturday, March 9 as Ohio Wesleyan University (4-0) visits Alexandre Stadium. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
