SANDUSKY, Ohio – The Washington & Jefferson College volleyball team was edged twice in action at the Cedar Point Tournament.
Anderson 3, W&J 1 (25-22,25-19,7-25,25-14)
Anderson opened the match with two narrow set victories picking up a 25-22 and 25-19 decision in the first and second sets consecutively before falling to the Presidents in the third.
The Red & Black rallied back in the third set with a seven-point run early in the match to claim a commanding 7-1 lead. The seven-point streak was broken by a kill from the Ravens before W&J tallied three more consecutive points to set the score at 10-2. Anderson would tack on another before the Presidents went for a match high nine-point streak. Despite the Ravens effort in adding four more points, W&J was able to put away the set in six quick points ending the set with an impressive 25-7 score.
Anderson quickly regained control, claiming the fourth set by a score of 25-14 to take the match 3-1.
Sophie Little (Marysville, Ohio/Fairbanks) led the team with 11 kills. Following close behind were
Rian Benz (Strongsville, Ohio/Holy Name) and
Faith Fetsko (Venetia, Pa./South Park) with 10 and 8 respectively. Fetsko and
Brielle Moorhouse (East Liberty, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) both tallied two aces apiece in the match for the Presidents.
Abby Oldham (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) led the team with five blocks followed by
Jaden Blough (Meyersdale, Pa./Meyersdale) and Benz with four apiece. Moorhouse recorded a team high 21 assists in the match.
Kalamazoo 3, W&J 0 (25-19, 25-20,25-22)
Kalamazoo picked up their second win of the tournament against W&J after collecting a prior 3-1 victory over Oberlin. The Presidents dropped the match by scores of 25-19, 25-20 and 25-22.
Bridgett Everett (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) led the team with six kills. Benz led the team with three aces followed by
Piper McFarland (West Mifflin, Pa. Cornerstone Preparatory Academy) who registered two.
Oldham led the team with two blocks in their second outing. Moorhouse tallied a team-high 10 assists with
Adrianna Sacramento (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) close behind with nine assists.
W&J faces Bluffton (10 a.m.) before taking on Olivet (2 p.m.) in Saturday action at the Cedar Point Tournament.
