W&J Volleyball Overthrows Division II Point Park in Midweek Sweep

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College volleyball team mustered a successful showing against Division II Point Park in a midweek nonconference sweep, 3-0.

The first set of the matchup was littered with early lead changes from both units. Point Park compiled a five-point run on the Presidents to take a 17-14 lead heading into the final points but would ultimately fall to the Presidents after logging some errors on the offensive end.

W&J managed a two-phase clinic in the second set after logging a dominant 25-11 victory. The team posted an above .400 hitting percentage after registering bunches of multi-point swings.

The Presidents closed out the three-set bout with a 25-18 finish in the third. Point Park managed to start the set up 4-1 but would quickly falter after W&J managed a 10-0 run to jump out to an early 11-4 lead.

Rian Benz (Strongsville, Ohio/Holy Name) led the team in kills with 13 followed by Faith Fetsko (Venetia, Pa./South Park) with eight and Jaden Blough (Meyersdale, Pa./Meyersdale) with seven. Adrianna Sacramento (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) recorded the majority of the assists with 20 on the night.

Sophie Little (Marysville, Ohio/Fairbanks) played a hard-nosed brand of volleyball at the net after registering four blocks. Fetsko led the team in digs followed by Piper McFarland (West Mifflin, Pa./Cornerstone Preparatory Academy) with 13.

W&J returns to action for some weekend volleyball at the Allegheny College Tournament Friday (Sept. 13). The tournament will span two days, seeing the Presidents face four total opponents. Opening serve is set for 6:00 p.m. against Fredonia.
