Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Landahl Records First Career Goal Against Houghton

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Washington & Jefferson field hockey team squared off with former conference foe Houghton (Sept. 14). The Presidents were upended 5-1 after netting an early goal.

The first quarter for the Presidents was one of their best single-quarter performances of the season as they managed an early-game score. After going down 1-0 to Houghton, W&J quickly rebounded with some much-needed offensive pressure which would lead to a penalty corner taken by Bailey Miller (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township). After the input from Miller, the ball squeaked out to the far side where the lurking Casey Landahl (Frederick, Md./Linganore) was, just in time to score her first collegiate score to knot the score at 1-1.

Houghton managed to sneak a shot behind the Presidents backline for a quick score, taking a 2-1 lead into the half.

Coming out of the half, Houghton managed to limit the W&J offensive opportunities well enough to create scoring opportunities on the opposite side of the field as the Highlanders tacked on another, 3-1. The Presidents added a penalty corner opportunity and shot in the fourth but would ultimately fall, 5-1.

Grace Erhard (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) recorded seven saves in goal with a full 60 minutes of play.

The Presidents will open North Coast Athletic Conference action this coming Wednesday (Sept. 18) on the road against one of their more touted rivals, in Allegheny. The sure to be thriller is set to start at 7:00 pm.
