CANFIELD, Ohio – The Washington & Jefferson College Cross Country teams competed in the YSU Inaugural Alumni Meet this morning. The men finished sixth while the women took eighth.
This is the first action both teams have seen since Sept. 7 where they competed at the PAC Preview. The YSU Alumni Meet featured varying teams from all three divisions of the NCAA.
For the men,
Dominic Flitcraft (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) headed the Presidents efforts after racing to a 26:44.41 mark to finish 11
th. Just behind Flitcraft in 31
st place, was senior
Julian Paul (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour). Paul wrapped the morning as the Presidents second-best runner with a mark of 27:51.22. W&J's next best was
Shaun Walker (Washington, Pa./Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter), finishing 58
th with a time of 29:12.66.
Rounding out the top men's finishers were seniors
Jake Sinclair (Beallsville, Pa./Beth-Center) and
Daniel Deal (Butler, Pa./Knoch). Sinclair took 77
th with a time of 30:21.98 while Deal finished 83
rd racing to a mark of 30:32.34.
For the women,
Claire Anderson (Jamestown, Pa./Jamestown) led the charge for the Red & Black posting a top finish. Anderson wrapped the morning in sixth place with a time of 18:56.94.
Maria Gilles (North Ridgeville, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) was the next best runner for W&J at 39
th place with a mark of 20:30.66. Behind Gilles followed
Genevieve Ruth (Brecksville, Ohio/Brecksville Broadview Heights) who capped off her day with a 62
nd-place finish and time of 21:31.49.
Rounding out the women's top finishers includes junior
Chloe LoCastro (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and sophomore
Grace Reid-Vensel (Washington, Pa./Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter). LoCastro placed 87
th on the day with a time of 22:57.15 while Reid-Vensel paced her way to a 92-place mark with a time of 23:15.77.
W&J returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 5) after another short in-season break at the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University.
