W&J Swimming & Diving Splits Action at Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College swimming & diving teams split in weekend action against the Allegheny Gators. The W&J men logged a decisive 164-46 victory while the W&J women fell to a 157-94 decision.
 
The men elevate to a 3-3-1 (3-1 PAC) overall record while the women fall to 2-6 overall (2-3 PAC).
 
The W&J men swept the relays with first place finishes in the 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay.
 
In the 200 medley, the unit of Ethan Glessner (McKeesport, Pa./Elizabeth Forward), Logan Marks (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin), Brian Lowry (Wenonah, N.J./Gloucester County Institute of Technology) and Aidan Marks (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) finished with a win through a 1:40.99 time. In the 400 freestyle, the team of Daniel Jeffries (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield Area), L. Marks, Lowry and A. Marks wrapped the event with a mark of 3:25.09.
 
Leading the Presidents in the individual events was freshman standout March Yuan (Simi Valley, Calif./Oak Park). Yuan logged three wins on the afternoon. He won the 100- and 200-yard butterfly with respective marks of 56.99 and 2:05.23. He also took first in the 200-yard IM with a mark of 2:05.19.
 
Logan Marks capped the evening with two first-place marks in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke with respective times of 59.80 and 2:17.13. Teammate and sibling, Aidan Marks, logged a first-place designation in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.97 and finished second in the 100-yard freestyle with a pace of 52.02.
 
Jeffries earned two top finishes in the individual events following his efforts in the relays. He swam to a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.28. He also took second in the 500-yard freestyle with a mark of 5:23.47.
 
Dual-sport athlete Brody Souder (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) logged a first-place victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 2:01.94.
 
Capping off the Presidents' top men's performers was freshman diver Zach Lloyd (Dillsburg, Pa./Lloyd Academy (Homeschooled)). Lloyd took first place in the 1-meter dive with a total score of 466.65.
 
For the W&J women, the unit of Luna Balzano (El Portal, Fla./Broward Virtual School), Sophie Talamonti (Flushing, Ohio/Union Local), Sophia Garrett (Cincinnati, Ohio/Saint Ursula Academy) and Morgan Baughman (West Newton, Pa./Mount Pleasant) logged a first-place mark in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:05.90.
 
Leading in the individual events were sophomore swimmers, Balzano and Garrett.
 
Balzano logged two first-place marks in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly with respective times of 26.15 and 1:03.53. Garrett also logged two victories in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke with respective times of 1:05.18 and 2:23.18.
 
Maddie Malone (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) logged a diverse day in the pool with three top finishes for the Presidents. Her top finish came in the 200-yard IM, winning the event with a time of 2:28.78. She also logged a second-place designation in the 200-yard breaststroke with a mark of 2:44.95. She capped her afternoon logging a third-place mark in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:14.78.
 
Freshman Amiyah White (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area) was the sole participant in the 1-meter diving event for the W&J women, sealing a first-place finish with a total score of 289.10.
 
Baughman supplemented the Presidents efforts with a second-place mark in the 100-yard freestyle with a pace of 59.64. She additionally added a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a mark of 27.30.
 
The W&J Swimming & Diving teams return to the Henry Memorial Natatorium to host their senior recognition meet against the visiting Grove City Wolverines on Saturday (Jan. 25). First event is scheduled to commence at 1:00 p.m.
