Women’s Volleyball Celebrates Senior Recognition During W&J Tri-Match

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's volleyball team (12-12,7-5) were swept in the W&J Tri-Match against the Hiram Terriers (20-2,11-1) and the Wilmington Quakers (3-20).

The Presidents honored their four seniors including Abby Tester (Munhall, Pa./Steel Valley)Beyoncè Pierce (Parkersburg, W.Va. / Parkersburg), Faith Fetsko (Venetia, Pa./South Park) and Piper McFarland (West Mifflin, Pa./Cornerstone Preparatory Academy).
 
W&J 0, Hiram 3 (18-25, 18-25, 22-25)
Fetsko and Cali Dagen (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) led the offense with nine kills each. Brielle Moorhouse (East Liberty, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) led the setting room with 23 assists. Fetsko had the lone service ace.
 
McFarland headed the defensive categories with 17 digs. McFarland also had three assists. Abby Oldham (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) had six total blocks in the opener with three assisted and three solo blocks.
 
After dropping the opening two sets, the Presidents attempted to go for a third set comeback. W&J started the third set with a 5-0 lead which featured kills by Pierce, Syndey Allen and Oldham. The Terriers responded by inching their way to a 22-19 lead in the final points. Despite kills from Lola Jacobs (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) and Fetsko down the stretch, W&J dropped the final set 25-22.
 
W&J 2, Wilmington 3 (22-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-23, 12-15)
Oldham posted a career-high 22 kills in the second match of the W&J Tri-Match. She also had seven total blocks against the Quakers. Fetsko, Dagen and Jacobs all reached double digits in kills. Moorhouse led the setters with 34 while Isabella Bottiglieri (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) added 23.
 
McFarland led in digs with 25 while Allen, Fetsko, Moorhouse and Bottiglieri all reached double figures. Fetsko, Pierce and Jacobs each accumulated three total blocks.
 
After dropping the opening set, W&J responded with their first set victory of the day. The Presidents ripped off five-straight points to open the second set, 5-0. The lead was carried the distance despite a late run from Wilmington, 25-20.
 
Both teams traded set scores of 25-23 in the third and fourth sets to reach the game determining fifth set. W&J battled to a 4-4 tie to open the final set which was highlighted by two kills from Jacobs. Wilmington entered a five-point run to take a 9-4 lead. Errors by the Quakers and a rejuvenated W&J offense brought the Quaker lead within two. The Presidents ultimately did not inch their way back into the set with a 15-point cap, 15-12.
 
The Presidents remain in Washington for a Presidents' Athletic Conference match against the Bethany Bison on Wednesday (Oct. 29) for its Halloween Game. First Serve is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start.
