Men’s Soccer Edges Waynesburg on Senior Day

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's soccer team (5-4-2, 1-2-1)  closed out their home stand by defeating the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets (6-4-1, 1-2-1) 1-0 on senior recognition day.

The Presidents tried to get a goal early, as both of their first-half shots came before the 25-minute mark.  Neither team could find the back of the net as the game went into the halftime break scoreless, 0-0.  Both teams had two shots in the half, but the Yellow Jackets had a 3-1 advantage on corner kicks.

Each team doubled their shot total early in the second half.  The Presidents finally found the way through the Yellow Jackets' defense when junior captain Jimmy Gogol (Westminster, Md./Westminster) picked up a turnover at midfield and carried it the length of the pitch to score his fourth goal of the season in the 77th minute.  The Presidents held off the aggressive offense by the Yellow Jackets in the closing minutes to take the win, 1-0.

Junior goalkeeper Graeme Ewart (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) got the start in goal and picked up three saves throughout the course of the contest.

The Presidents look to continue this momentum on the road at Allegheny.  Kickoff from Meadville will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday (Oct. 8).
