WASHINGTON, Pa. – The top seeded Washington & Jefferson College women's volleyball team (16-13) falls in a fifth-set thriller (25-23, 13-25, 19-25, 25-23, 15-17) to the No. 4 seeded Grove City Wolverines (18-8) in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Quarterfinals.
Junior captain
Brielle Moorhouse (East Liberty, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) had 30 assists and freshman
Isabella Bottiglieri (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) had an additional 21. Offensively,
Faith Fetsko (Venetia, Pa./South Park) finished the match with season-best 19 kills, and
Lola Jacobs (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) had 11.
Cali Dagen (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and
Abby Oldham (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) each had nine kills as well. Defensively, Fetsko led the team with a career-high equivalent of 31 digs.
Sydney Allen (Washington, Pa./Trinity) had 19 digs, and senior captain
Piper McFarland (West Mifflin, Pa./Cornerstone Preparatory Academy) had 17.
Each team was trading points all the way until W&J had a 10-9 lead. The Presidents tried to break open the set, but the Wolverines fought back to even it at 20. W&J went on to win the opening set off kills by Jacobs, Oldham, and Fetsko.
The Wolverines responded and opened the second set with a 13-3 advantage. Grove City pulled out to 18-5 advantage, but the Presidents were trying to rally. W&J brought the score to 23-12, but the Wolverines held on to even the match and take the second set 25-13.
The third set started out similar to the first, both teams traded the opening eight points. Grove City tried to pull away to take a 9-5 advantage, but W&J answered that with a run of their own off a serving by Jacobs. Dagen had three kills and a block during the run to make the set score 11-9. The teams traded points until 16-16 and the Wolverines found a second wind to close out the set 25-19.
The fourth set was a battle as no team could get more than a two-point lead until 21-21. Serving from freshman
Jordan Sirianni (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) helped W&J get on a run to close out the fourth set from a kill by Fetsko.
The 15-point shootout continued the back-and-forth action that was shown in the previous sets. The Presidents got a small run off serves from Allen. The Wolverines saved two match points and went on to take the fifth set, 17-15.
W&J concluded the 2025 campaign, reaching a plethora of milestones. Fetsko became only the second W&J player to surpass both 1,000 career kills and career digs. She closed out the season as the second all-time kills leader with 1,114. McFarland became the second all-time leader in career digs and closes out the season with 1,976. Additionally, junior Moorhouse surpassed the 1,800 career assists mark and became the fifth all-time with 1,807.
