Men’s Basketball Wraps Undefeated Week with Win Against Penn State Abington

CHESTER, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson men's basketball team (3-1) closed out the Widener Tip-Off Tournament with a 79-63 win over Penn State Abington (0-5).
 
Junior captain Nathan Plotner (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg South) led the Presidents with 20 points, five blocks, and three assists. Senior captain Alex Acosta (Acworth, Ga./North Cobb) picked up his second consecutive double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
 
It was a back-and-forth opening half between the Presidents and the Nittany Lions. There were eight ties and 13 lead changes in the opening half. The Presidents were able to successfully work the ball inside as they outscored the Nittany Lions 22-16 in the paint throughout the opening half. W&J shot 48% from the floor and 50% from beyond the arc. The teams went into the locker room tied at 35 at the halftime break.
 
W&J broke the game open in the second half, scoring two points off turnovers and another 36 in the paint. As a team, W&J outshot Penn State Abington 45% to 35% in the final frame.
 
Acosta was named to the All-Tournament team for his performance throughout the event. The senior posted two double-doubles throughout the two-day tournament.
 
The Presidents return to Salvetti Family Gymnasium for their home opener against the Carnegie Mellon Tartans on Tuesday (Nov. 18). Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
