MARIETTA, Ohio – Seventh-ranked SUNY Cortland (3-2) led at halftime and pulled away over the final 20 minutes to secure a 74-62 victory over the 25th ranked Washington & Jefferson College women's basketball team (4-1) in a battle of ranked teams Saturday afternoon at Ban Johnson Arena in Marietta, Ohio.

Riley DeRubbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) finished with a game-high 19 points to go along with a team-best eight rebounds in the loss. Senior guard
Stellanie Loutsion (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and junior forward
Jaden Wan (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock) finished with 14 points and 12 points, respectively. Junior point guard
Marina Grado (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) chipped in four assists and two steals to lead the Presidents in those categories.
W&J forged an early 9-5 lead behind a pair of buckets by junior center
Katie Kovalchick (Shelocta, Pa./Indiana Area) and a three-pointer by DeRubbo. Cortland, who dropped its meeting with nationally ranked Carnegie Mellon on Friday night, countered quickly to even the score with four-straight points. Following a
Jaden Wan (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock) three-pointer, Cortland ripped off six-straight points to end the first quarter with a 15-12 advantage.
The Red Dragons opened the second quarter on a 12-4 run to extend their lead into double digits. A pair of Cortland free throws made the advantage 27-16 at the 6:22 mark. The Presidents fought to chip away at the deficit for the remainder of the half. W&J put together an extended 15-6 run to trim the deficit to 33-31 after a pair of free throws by DeRubbo with 2:03 to play before half. Cortland closed the half strong and led by a 40-33 margin going into the break.
Cortland maintained a comfortable advantage throughout the third quarter. W&J seemed poised to make a run at things early in the fourth. Five-straight points by Loutsion to open the final quarter cut the Cortland lead to 56-53 with 7:33 to play. However, the Red Dragons were able to methodically put the game away down the stretch for the victory.
The Red Dragons held key advantages in rebounding (41-28), second chance points (17-7) and bench points (27-14) in the win over the Presidents.
W&J travels to La Roche University for a non-conference game on Tuesday (Nov. 25). Tip off in Pittsburgh is scheduled for 5 p.m.
