IMMACULATA, Pa. – Four members of the Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse team recorded hat tricks to power the Presidents to a 20-7 victory over host Immaculata University Monday evening in non-conference play in Eastern Pennsylvania.
Brynne Stewart (Painesville, Ohio/Andrews Osborne Academy) totaled a career-high five goals and a career-high seven points to help guide the offense. Stewart added five draw controls and four ground balls.
Caleigh Bogats (Oakdale, Pa./Chartiers-Valley) continued her strong start to the season with six points (five goals, one assist) to go along with a team-high six draw controls and five ground balls.
Ella Holland (Healdsburg, Calif./Healdsburg) filled the stat sheet with four goals, two assists, a team-high six ground balls and a team-high three caused turnovers.
Mya Bolinda (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) added a fourth hat trick for W&J, as the junior finished with three goals.
Avery Byard (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) tacked on two goals, three ground balls and two draw controls.
Sophomore
Emma Herrington (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) picked up the win in goal. Herrington logged five saves over 60 minutes.
Immaculata ripped off the opening three goals and four of the first five goals of the game to take an early lead. W&J was quick to respond with a run of its own to take the lead for good. The Presidents countered with five-straight goals during a high-scoring opening quarter. Bogats scored twice during the run as the Presidents gained a 6-5 lead after the first.
W&J opened up a five-goal lead with four-straight scores to start the second quarter. Stewart started the run with a player-up goal. Bogats, Bolinda and Holland tacked on unassisted scores to extend the lead to 10-5 midway through the second. The Mighty Macs scored the final two goals of the half to cut the lead to 10-7 at the break.
The Presidents put the game away with a dominant effort in the second half. W&J scored all 10 goals over the final 30 minutes. Stewart and Bogats combined to score five of the six W&J goals in the third quarter. Bogats unassisted score at the 4:29 mark strengthened the lead to 16-7.
Bolinda, Byard, Holland and Stewart scored a goal apiece during the final quarter as W&J pushed the lead into double digits to get the running clock moving.
W&J held advantages in shots (35-15) and draw controls (17-12). Both teams finished with 27 ground balls in the contest. The two teams also finished with 22 turnovers apiece.
The Presidents will take the rest of the week off for Spring Break before resuming play at Mount Union on Thursday (March 20). First draw is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Alliance.
