Men’s Tennis Picks Up Spring Break Victory over Salve Regina

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's tennis team bested Salve Regina in a 4-3 decision for their first victory of their spring break trip.
 
The Presidents uplift themselves to a 2-5 record on the season all in nonconference play.
 
W&J added the first team point of the day through the doubles team point, courtesy of victories at No. 2 and 3 doubles. Abhinav Yarramaneni (Mountain View, Calif./Los Altos) and Srivatsa Bellamkonda (Sewickley, Pa./North Allegheny) struck first with a 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles. Following a loss at No. 1 doubles, partners Alex Duing (South Park, Pa./South Park) and Nate Clarke (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) sealed the team point with a clutch 6-4 No. 2 doubles win.
 
After dropping No. 1 and 2 singles, the Presidents quickly fired back with a win of their own. Yarramaneni bested the Salve Regina No. 3 singles player by a three-set score of 2-6, 6-2 and 15-13 in the final thrilling set. Connor Simms (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan) followed suite with a victory at No. 5 singles, winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.
 
Aarav Surapaneni (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon Area) secured the Presidents' second win of the season with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 6 singles to take a 4-3 team victory over Salve Regina.
 
The Presidents remain at the Van Der Meer Tennis Center in Hilton Head, S.C. to face off with Gordon on Thursday (March 13). First serve is scheduled for a 10:00 a.m. start.
