MARIETTA, Ohio – The Washington & Jefferson College women's golf team concluded day one of their spring season opener at the Pioneer Classic hosted by Marietta College. The W&J women rest in third place after the first 18 holes with a total team score of 342.

W&J: 3rd out of 4 (Balwin Wallace, John Carroll, Marietta and Eastern to be scored Sunday morning)
Top W&J Individual: Megan Joyce (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) wrapped day one as the Presidents' top individual in their first spring appearance in 2025. Joyce shot an 81 (+11) after the first 18 holes, currently in a three-way tie for second.
Notables: The next best finisher for W&J was
Julia Barthelemy (Crescent, Pa./Moon Area). The Presidents' Athletic Conference's 2024 Fall Medalist shot an 86 (+16) in her return to the course. Following close behind with an 87 (+17) on the day was senior
Dinah Bailey (Baden, Pa./Ambridge).
MacKenzie Schmeltz (Edwardsburg, Mich./Saint Joseph) also shot a respectable 88 (+18) on the day as the President's fourth best golfer after day one.
Lauren Tekely (Glendale, W.Va./John Marshall) wrapped W&J's five golfers, having posted a 100 (+30) after round one.
Tournament Highlights
Top Team: Dension currently rests atop the field having shot a 330 as a team after day one. Dension holds a five-stroke lead over Otterbein (335). Balwin Wallace, John Carroll, Marietta and Eastern have yet to be scored from day one but will finish their first rounds prior to the start of day two.
Top Individual: Alayna Meyer of Otterbein holds the top spot at the Pioneer Classic thus far. Meyer shot a 77 (+7) on day one of the tournament, four strokes away from a three-way tie between Joyce and Elizabeth Lyon and Anna Klass of Dension.
Up Next: The Presidents will remain in Marietta for the second round of the Pioneer Classic, Sunday (March 23).
