GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's tennis team grew their win streak to five wins following their Presidents' Athletic Conference victory over Thiel, 6-1.
The Presidents improve to above .500 on the season with a 7-6 overall record and unbeaten 4-0 mark in conference play.
W&J rolled out to a 1-0 lead after collecting the first team point of the afternoon by way of doubles play.
Srivatsa Bellamkonda (Sewickley, Pa./North Allegheny) and
Connor Simms (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan) opened with a 6-0 sweep at No. 3 doubles.
Alex Duing (South Park, Pa./South Park) and
Mitch Kenney (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) followed suit with another 6-0 sweep at No. 2 doubles to seal the first team point.
Nick Kubik (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and
Jackson Akers (Logan, W. Va./Logan) won their No. 1 doubles match 6-3 to close out partnered play.
W&J proceeded to take five of the six matches in individual play. Akers kicked it off with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles followed by a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles by Duing. Closing out singles play with 6-0, 6-0 sweeps included Bellamkonda at No. 4 singles, Simms at No. 5 singles and Kenney at No. 6 singles.
W&J remains in conference play looking for their sixth-straight victory against the Saint Vincent Bearcats on Friday (April 4). Doubles play is set to begin at 4:00 p.m. at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center.
