Men’s Lacrosse Downed by Saint Vincent

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson men's lacrosse team (5-10, 1-5) were defeated by the visiting Saint Vincent Bearcats (8-7, 5-2), 26-4.
 
Zach Mey (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) led the scoring for W&J with two goals on two shots. William Fenimore (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and Riley Bullock (Kennett Square, Pa./Wilmington Christian (Del.)) also contributed a goal each.
 
Braden Petrarco (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) led the Presidents in ground balls with four. Five different Presidents caused one turnover.
 
The Bearcats ran up a 6-0 lead before the Presidents mustered their first goal. Austin Hopkins (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) connected with Mey on the Presidents first goal, scored at the 5:25 mark of the first quarter.
 
Saint Vincent rattled off five more goals before the Presidents found the back of the net again. Mey found the back of the net for the second time in the first half, netting a goal off the dish from Fenimore to reduce the Bearcats lead to 11-2 heading into the half.
 
Bullock and Fenimore netted goals in the final two quarters of play but were outmatched as Saint Vincent outscored W&J 15-2 in the second half.
 
Noah Bracco (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) got the start in goal, racking up eight saves. Stephen Moschetta (Washington, Pa./Trinity) worked the third quarter of play. John Novoselich (Cornwall on Hudson, N.Y./James I. Oneill) finished the contest in goal with six saves.
 
The Presidents return to action next Wednesday (April 23) to face the Westminster Titans at Alexandre Stadium. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
