WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's lacrosse team dropped a 20-9 decision to visiting Franciscan University of Steubenville in Presidents' Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon at Alexandre Stadium.
The Presidents conclude the year at 5-12 overall. The Barons wrap up 2025 with a 5-9 overall mark.
Paul Shook (Camp Hill, Pa./Trinity) scored a team-high four goals and added two assists to lead the way for the Presidents. William Fennimore finished with five points, as the freshman scored twice and added three assists.
Zach Mey (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) scored twice while
Riley Bullock (Kennett Square, Pa./Wilmington Christian (Del.)) found the back of the net once. Defensively,
Anthony DeLuca (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) and
Noah Bracco (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) scooped up five ground balls apiece.
Braden Petrarco (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) and
Olin Putz (Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek) caused two turnovers each.
Franciscan scored the first three goals of the game and pushed out to a 4-2 lead after the opening 15 minutes. Fennimore and Shook accounted for the first quarter goals for W&J.
Mey scored off an assist from Shook to open the second quarter scoring and draw the Presidents within a goal at 4-3. Franciscan countered with three-straight goals of the opening half to take a 7-3 lead into the break.
Franciscan scored three times in the opening three minutes of the quarter to stretch its lead to 10-3. W&J countered with consecutive goals by Shook, Bullock and Fennimore to trim the deficit to 10-6 with 5:51 remaining in the quarter. Neither team scored during the remainder of the quarter, which allowed the Barons to carry the four-goal lead into the fourth.
The Barons used a strong fourth quarter to pull away to finish off their victory. Franciscan outscored W&J by a 10-3 margin over the final 15 minutes.
Franciscan held advantages statistically in shots (50-41), shots on goal (35-21), ground balls (37-29) and face-off wins (19-10).
Bracco made 15 saves over 57-plus minutes in goal.
W&J recognized its graduating senior class prior to the start of the game. Mey, DeLuca, Shook and
Austin Hopkins (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) were honored prior to the season finale.
