WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse team (10-5, 8-1) dropped their Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals matchup against the visiting Chatham Cougars (11-6, 7-2), 12-11.
Mya Bolinda (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) led the Presidents on the offensive end, netting a team-high five goals and dishing on assist for a total six points. Bogats also claimed six draw controls and four ground balls.
Caleigh Bogats (Oakdale, Pa./Chartiers Valley) also dropped a hat trick on the night with three goals.
Sammy Hartz (Ijamsville, Md./Oakdale) held down the defensive backline with four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Avery Byard (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown),
Ella Phillips (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) and Bogats all caused two turnovers as well.
After Chatham scored the first goal of the game at the 14:35 mark, W&J rattled off a four-goal run to take a 4-1 lead after one quarter of action. Ella Holand and
Brynne Stewart (Painesville, Ohio/Andrews Osborne Academy) scored within a minute apart, giving W&J their first lead of the day. Bolinda netted a man-up goal and was followed up by unassisted goal by
Avery Byard (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) who bookended the opening quarter scoring at the 37 second mark.
The opposition regained the lead in the second quarter, entering a five-goal scoring spree to take the 6-4 lead. Bogats snapped the scoring barrage with a goal with two minutes remaining off a pass from Bolinda to enter the half down 6-5.
Bolinda and Bogats opened the third quarter with a goal each to give the Presidents the lead, 7-6. Following two more scores by the Cougars, Bolinda evened the score again at 8-8 with a solo goal. Chatham closed the third with a buzzer-beater goal, 9-8.
A man-up goal by Chatham at the 13-minute mark gave the Cougars a 10-8 lead in the fourth. The Presidents rallied back again with a three-goal run, two being score by Bolinda and one being netted by Bogats to take an 11-10 advantage. The Cougars went on to score two goals in the final four minutes taking the 12-11 victory over W&J. A game winner scored with two seconds left in regulation sealed the victory for Chatham.
Gianna Baker (Carlisle, Pa./Trinity) played all 60 minutes in goal with seven saves. Baker finishes the season with a 7-3 overall record.
W&J concludes their 2025 campaign with a 10-5 overall record and an 8-1 record in conference play.
