Baseball Recognized 16 Seniors during Senior Recognition Day Against Bethany

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College baseball team (26-13, 16-4) dropped their final conference doubleheader of the season to the visiting Bethany Bison (12-24-1, 7-13) on their senior recognition day. The Presidents honored 16 members of the graduating class of 2025.
 
Drew Garth (Glenshaw, Pa./North Hills) led the Presidents with three hits on the day, two coming from game one with one run batted in. Teddy Platt (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) also picked up two hits in game two with one run batted in.
 
Game 1 – W&J 1, Bethany 7
The Bison jumped out ahead of the Presidents in the opening inning, scoring three runs to take an early advantage, 3-0.
 
Bethany added three runs across the second and fourth innings to inflate their lead to 6-0 over W&J.
 
The Presidents mustered their first run of the game in the fourth inning. Garth smacked his sixth home run of the season over the right center fence to reduce the deficit to five, 6-1.
 
Bethany added an insurance run in the eighth inning to take a 7-1 game one victory over the Presidents.
 
Ethan Marszalek (Katy, Texas/Seven Lakes) picked up the loss for W&J with 1.0 innings pitched. Freshman Erik Streussnig (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) worked 5.0 innings of relief with two strikeouts. Jake Stiehl (Reston, Va./South Lakes) pitched 1.2 innings of relief with two strikeouts. Nate Nolan (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) closed the game with 1.1 innings pitched and two punchouts.
 
Game 2 – W&J 1, Bethany 3
Bethany continued their early production offensively, taking the first lead of game two on a solo home run in the top of the first inning, 1-0.
 
W&J responded with their first score of game two with an RBI single hit by Platt which drove in Josh Dezenzo (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) from third, 1-1.
 
Bethany logged the game-winning run in the top of the sixth inning, taking a 3-1 lead which was held intact for the remainder of the game.
 
Eight pitchers saw the mound for W&J in game two. Bobby Budacki (New Brighton, Pa./New Brighton Area), Jackson Cromwell (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty), Brandon Bastian (Barto, Pa./The Hill School), Alex Tomsic (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk), Ben Pierce (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) and Brendan Cruz (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley) all worked scoreless innings. Dante DiMatteo (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) got the start, fanning two in 1.2 innings. Rafe McClure (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) picked up the loss in 1.0 innings pitched with one strikeout.
 
W&J enters the Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament as the No. 1 seed and will face the No. 6 seed on Wednesday (May 7). First pitch is scheduled for an 11:00 a.m. start at Ross Memorial Park.
