Westminster Edges W&J in Thursday Action at PAC Tournament

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College baseball team (27-14, 17-5) hit a snag in the 2025 Presidents Athletic Conference Tournament falling in a 5-4 loss to No. 4 seeded Westminster Titans (17-21, 12-9) Thursday afternoon in Game E of the tournament.

Drew Garth (Glenshaw, Pa./North Hills) and Teddy Platt (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) led the Presidents offensively, each tallying two hits each. Knox Meier (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep), Brian Feldman (Gibsonia, Pa./Eden Christian Academy) and Zac Stern (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour) accounted for the Presidents' three RBIs.

W&J got things started with a run in the first inning, 1-0. Jacob LaDuca (Clarence, N.Y./Canisius) crossed home plate for the Presidents after drawing a leadoff walk to reach the base paths.

Westminster responded with a run in the bottom of the second and fourth innings to take the lead, 2-1.

The Titan's lead was short-lived as the Presidents put up three runs in the fifth inning. A wild pitch allowed Platt to take home and tie the game, 2-2. A single and sacrifice flyout followed from Feldman and Stern, respectively, to tack on the remainder of the Presidents runs in the inning, 4-2.

Westminster tied things up once more in the bottom of the sixth inning with two runs. The Titans took the lead for a second time in the outing after scoring another run in the bottom of the seventh while holding W&J scoreless for the rest of the contest to claim the 5-4 victory.

Ethan Marszalek (Katy, Texas/Seven Lakes) pitched the first 5.2 innings for the Presidents. Marszalek struck out four opposing batters and allowed four earned runs. Jake Stiehl (Reston, Va./South Lakes) finished out the 0.1 left in the sixth inning. Brenden Cruz tossed the final 2.0 innings out of the bullpen and took the loss.

The Presidents will face No. 3 seed Allegheny in game G of the 2025 PAC Tournament on Friday (May 9) in an elimination game. The game is set for an 11:00 a.m. start.
