WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College swimming & diving teams swept both the Allegheny Gators swimming units. The men's team downed the Gators 231-29 while the women pulled out a 140-128 victory.
The Presidents honored five of their 2026 graduates including
Melvin McRae (Lillington, N.C./Overhills),
Nathaniel Harden (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area),
Aidan Miller (Grove City, Ohio/St. Charles Prep),
Reiner Jadav (Mumbai, India/St. Andrews College of Arts, Science, and Commerce) and
Audrey Kough (Fayetteville, Pa./Chambersburg).
Ethan Glessner (McKeesport, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) led the Presidents on the day with three individual victories. Glessner won the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.33), 100-yard butterfly (55.94) and the 200-yard IM (2:10.89).
March Yuan (Simi Valley, Calif./Oak Park) and
Aiden Marks (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) had a great day in the lanes, logging two first place finishes each. Yuan took victories in the 200-yard butterfly and the 1,650-yard freestyle with respective times of 2:11.35 and 17:49.03. Marks raced his way to wins in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle with respective marks of 50.93 and 1:58.16.
Harden earned top finishes in the breaststroke events. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Harden finished first with a time of 1:03.10. The captain also placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:32.33.
Micah Lohr (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) paced his way to a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:24.12. He also took second in the 200-yard butterfly with a mark of 2:19.24.
Daniel Jeffries (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield Area) and
Brian Lowry (Wenonah, N.J./Gloucester County Institute of Technology) also took first place finishes in the swimming events. Jeffries took first in the 200-yard backstroke (2:08.60) while Lowry won the 50-yard freestyle (23.16).
Zach Lloyd (Dillsburg, Pa./Lloyd Academy (Homeschooled)) led all men's divers with a total score of 443.15 in the 1-meter dive.
The Presidents swept both the relays on the day. The 200-yard medley relay unit of Glessner, Harden, Lowry and Marks raced to a time of 1:40.44. The quad consisting of Jeffries,
Corbin Likar (Amity, Pa./Trinity), Lowry and Marks finished first with a time of 1:29.73.
Sophia Garrett (Cincinnati, Ohio/Saint Ursula Academy) led the W&J women with three top finishes on the day. The junior took victories in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke with respective times of 1:07.35 and 2:25.87. Garrett also placed second in the 200-yard IM with a mark of 2:35.11.
Freshman
Mackenzie Caron (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) also finished the day with three top finishes in her respective events. Caron won the 200- and 500-yard freestyle with times of 2:06.31 and 5:37.27. She also finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.96.
Amiyah White (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area) picked up crucial team points for the Presidents after taking first place in the 1-meter dive with a total score of 333.50.
Maddie Malone (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) logged a productive day, highlighted by a first-place finish in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:30.79. Malone also took a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:44.74. The junior captain capped her day placing third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:16.61.
Riley Gutierrez (Deer Park, Texas/Deer Park) rounded out the top individual performers for the Presidents. Gutierrez took second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:09.27), third in the 100-yard freestyle (1:02.62) and fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (28.13).
The relay unit consisting of Garrett, Caron, Malone and Gutierrez took a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:59.70. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of
Madison Mansell (York Springs, Pa./Northern),
Sophie Talamonti (Flushing, Ohio/Union Local),
Mela Barnhart (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and Kough took second with a time of 2:07.72.
The W&J swimming & diving teams return to action on Saturday (Jan. 24) for a meet against the Wooster Fighting Scots. The weekend meet is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
