GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College swimming & diving teams concluded Presidents' Athletic Conference regular season duals with a meeting with the Grove City Wolverines. The Wolverines bested the Presidents on the men's side 169-122 and 209-63 against the women.
Zach Lloyd (Dillsburg, Pa./Lloyd Academy (Homeschooled)) led the W&J men's divers to a close defeat to the Wolverines. Lloyd took victories in both the 1-meter dive and the 3-meter dive with respective scores of 279.90 and 231.15.
Sophomore
March Yuan (Simi Valley, Calif./Oak Park) also had a great day in the lanes for W&J, picking up the lone victory between the lanes for either squad. Yuan won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:03.44. He also raced to a second-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:02.90.
Daniel Jeffries (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield Area) was productive in the short-distance events. The junior placed second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.06 and finished third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.94.
Captain
Nathaniel Harden (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) worked his way to a top finish in three events this afternoon. Harden headed his day with a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.39. He also finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:34.40 and fourth in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:26.01.
Aiden Marks (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) took second in the 50-yard freestyle sprint with a time of 22.65. He additionally raced his way to a fourth-place mark in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.34.
Mackenzie Caron (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) led the W&J women's swimming & diving units with two top finishes in her respective events. Caron took second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.26 and additionally finished third in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:08.84.
Junior
Sophia Garrett (Cincinnati, Ohio/Saint Ursula Academy) worked her way to a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:06.29. She also finished third in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:24.85.
Freshman
Riley Gutierrez (Deer Park, Texas/Deer Park) raced to a second-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:47.30. She additionally took third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:05.76.
Captain
Maddie Malone (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) capped the Presidents' top finishers on the women's side with two third place marks. The junior captain took third in the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard breaststroke with respective times of 2:15.24 and 2:45.24.
The W&J swimming & diving teams return to the lanes and diving boards for day one of the PAC Championships held at Grove City starting on Wednesday (Feb. 18). Events are scheduled to commence at 6:00 p.m.
