Women’s Volleyball Upended by Chatham

WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Washington & Jefferson College women's volleyball team fell to 1-4 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play and 5-14 overall after falling to the Chatham Cougars in a three-set sweep in PAC action Wednesday evening.

The Cougars move to 4-2 in PAC play and 8-6 overall.

Cali Dagen (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) led the offense with nine kills and seven digs. Abby Oldham (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) added five kills and a .444 hitting percentage. Sophomore setter Isabella Bottiglieri (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) led the team with 14 assists followed by Brielle Moorhouse (East Liberty, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) who totaled 13. Sydney Allen (Washington, Pa./Trinity) led the team with 14 digs.

Chatham pulled out a 28-26, first set victory. The teams were never separated by more than four points throughout the frame. After Chatham had a set-point opportunity, a Cali Dagen (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) kill and Lola Jacobs (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) ace gave W&J a 25-24 lead, and an opportunity to close out the set. However, Chatham was able to seal the set by claiming four out of the final five points.

Chatham claimed a 25-13 win in the second set. After leading 13-11 in the set, the Cougars closed out the frame with a 12-2 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Chatham completed the sweep with a 25-23 win in the third set. After the score was knotted up at 9-9, the Presidents were able to take a 19-14 lead after a pair of Kenna Adams (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) kills were joined by multiple Chatham errors. The Cougars were able to clean things up from there, as Chatham closed the set on an 11-4 run, claiming the victory.

W&J hosts Geneva for another conference match on Saturday, Oct. 17. The match also serves as senior recognition day for the Presidents. Start time in Salvitti Gymnasium is scheduled for 12 p.m.
